2 Samuel 6-9

“Who am I, O sovereign Lord, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?” (2 Samuel 7:18, NIV)

God pledged to establish David’s throne forever, through his ancestors and ultimately, through Jesus Christ. When David heard the news, he was overwhelmed. What a privilege to be used by God! David was humbled by God’s promise, and awed at His purposes.

The fact that God might use me at all—even in the smallest capacity—amazes me. That He would call me “child” and “chosen” is simply astounding. I want to be in the center of God’s purposes for me. I don’t want to miss a bit of what He has in store. Let me always remember, like David, just what an undeserved honor kingdom work is. Let my service always be motivated, not by duty, but by gratitude.

God, let my life say thank You for including me in Your plans—for using me at all. What grace You’ve shown me, Father. Who am I, God? What is my name—what are my talents? Why have You been so faithful, when I am so faithless? I’m not worthy, Lord, but I’m so grateful. Thank You for leading me this far. Lead me further still. Amen.
