“Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts:
‘I am the first and I am the last,
And there is no God besides Me.
‘Who is like Me? Let him proclaim and declare it;
Yes, let him recount it to Me in order,
From the time that I established the ancient nation.
And let them declare to them the things that are coming
And the events that are going to take place.
Isaiah 44:6-7 (NASB)
Among all the gods in the world that vie for our attention only one is so bold as to declare that He and He alone is God and Savior and then dare everyone to prove Him wrong. He is the first and the last, the One from whom all things have their existence. All things begin and end with God and nothing that exists is outside of His dominion. All things are held together in Him. He dares us to prove Him wrong and stands by the things that He has declared because they have happened. Only the One God can declare what will happen because all things come from Him.
How important is it for us to keep before us the nature of God? He is the first and the last – outside of time and in control of all the is before Him. He has proven it again and again in scripture by predicting exactly what would happen and then seeing it done. What security this brings! We are loved and cared for by the One who is in control of all history and directing this great story for the good of those who love Him and are called to His purpose. Even our calamities are part of His great plan for our redemption and salvation – for our good. He has proven His greatness and we can rest in Him when we keep His greatness before us
Lord God I thank you that you are the I AM, the One who is and cannot not be. All things come from you and are for Your glory. You have ordained all of history and all things work to your great purpose. I thank you even more that although you are so far above us and that we cannot even comprehend your majesty, You are also ABBA – Daddy. You love us with the tender love of a Father and you work your great plans for our good and who can stop you? Who is like you among the heavens and who can stand against what you have decided to do? Thank you that we can rest secure in the knowledge the You alone are God and You alone are good.
Amen and amen.
