Isaiah 64-66

Scripture

Thus says the LORD: “Heaven is my throne,
and the earth is my footstool;
what is the house that you would build for me,
and what is the place of my rest?

2 All these things my hand has made,
and so all these things came to be,
declares the LORD. But this is the one to whom I will look:
he who is humble and contrite in spirit
and trembles at my word.
~Isaiah 66:1,2 (ESV)

Observation

God could never be contained. We could never create a building or altar worthy of His measureless glory. Almost effortlessly He created everything that we see.

You would think I would need to be someone special to be recognized by such an awesome God. Clearly I could never deserve a friendship or intimate relationship with a Being of such magnitude.

Yet, we can know Him, and He knows us. He will look on us not when we come to Him with some measly accomplishments seeking to earn His favor, but when we recognize that His worth lies beyond us and we come in humility, even trembling. What an Awesome God!

Application

Don’t try bragging to God, that is just a waste of time.

God’s sovereignty must be recognized, but it is true whether we acknowledge it or not.

God deserves every drop of respect we can muster, and our subsequent humility, and lowly position,  should overwhelm us.

I need to more often start my prayers with Praise! When I remember whom I address in my prayers, it more sincerely brings that attitude of humility to the remainder of my prayers.

Prayer

Awesome God, I could never on my own deserve to interact with You. You hold this world in Your hands, You control my life with a gentle press of Your Potter’s hand and wheel. You, Lord, graciously allow me to come to You, through no achievement of my own. Thank you, Lord, for making a way, without which I would have no hope, no future, no victory. The heavens cannot contain, and yet You take up residence in my heart. Thank you! ~Amen
