Scripture:
Ezekiel 1:22-28, 22Over the heads of the living creatures there was the likeness of an expanse, shining like awe-inspiring crystal, spread out above their heads. 23And under the expanse their wings were stretched out straight, one toward another. And each creature had two wings covering its body. 24And when they went, I heard the sound of their wings like the sound of many waters, like the sound of the Almighty, a sound of tumult like the sound of an army. When they stood still, they let down their wings. 25And there came a voice from above the expanse over their heads. When they stood still, they let down their wings.26And above the expanse over their heads there was the likeness of a throne, in appearance like sapphire; and seated above the likeness of a throne was a likeness with a human appearance. 27And upward from what had the appearance of his waist I saw as it were gleaming metal, like the appearance of fire enclosed all around. And downward from what had the appearance of his waist I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and there was brightness around him. 28Like the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud on the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness all around. Such was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell on my face, and I heard the voice of one speaking. (English Standard Version)
Observation:
I have to let this scene soak in. I even did an images search on google. It is like this scene Ezekiel is describing is too much for me to visualize. What an awesome scene! The images I found made me realize just a portion of what Ezekiel must have seen that day. There are very few times in the Bible we get a description this clear about the glory of God.
Application:
This is a scene I need to recall more often. My view of God is to human-like. It’s too small. It’s something/someone I can control, not that I stand in awe of. As I continue on this reading journey I need to remember that when I read a command or encouragement from God, it’s this view of Him that it comes from. Not a nice looking guy, or just an old man with a white beard. He is so glorious, so awesome, that He is beyond description! And when He speaks I need to obey and do His bidding. Furthermore, I am humbled by the fact that this God that Ezekiel has described is mindful of me! What an awesome God He is.
Prayer:
Father God thank you for this glimpse of who you are. I praise you for your glory and majesty. Help me to soak in as much of you as humanly possible. Help me to obey you with all I have. After reading Ezekiel’s description of what you are like I am amzed that you take note of me, love and care for me. You are the Great God of the universe. I pray these words in Jesus Name Amen.
