Matthew 23 & 24

“They will see the Son of Man coming on the  clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. And He will send His angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.”

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away.”      Matthew 24:30b, 31, 35 NIV

Jesus is coming again! He said it and His words never fail.

I’ll be one of the first to admit that I do not understand all the passages that describe end-time events. I do understand that no one knows the time or the hour (24:36) and that He could come at any time(24:42,44). What baffles me is all the prophecies about how terrible the world is going to be and the supernatural happenings that will preceed His coming.

I think the world is a pretty hard place to live in now, but I know it could be much worse. Running in fear, hiding in the mountains, wars upon wars, earthquakes, famine, persecution. Many of these things are happening now in other countries to fellow believers. Does that mean we are close to His Second Coming or are things going to get that bad here in the comfy USA?

What I do know beyond of a shadow of a doubt is that Jesus keeps His word. I can trust Him! The whole Old Testament pointed forward to His first coming and it was fullfilled, exactly as prophesied. So if I need evidence beyond faith, it’s right here in my Bible.

So, when Jesus tells us that He will come again and will gather His elect from “one end of the heaven to the other” I believe Him and anxiously look forward to whenever that day is, while taking comfort in His words: “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” (vs. 35)

Dear Jesus,

Oh, how I look forward to the day of your coming, whether I am alive when it happens or my time on this earth has passed! Thank you for always keeping Your word and for being my trust-worthy Rock of  Salvation. No matter what happens in the days to come, I know that You are the Victor and the end of times is only the beginning of a whole new wonderful and beyond human words life.
