Scripture
Exodus 26
“You shall make”… detail, detail, detail;
“You shall make”… detail, detail, detail;
“You shall make”… detail, detail, detail;
“You shall make”… detail, detail, detail;
“You shall make”… detail, detail, detail;
“You shall make”… detail, detail, detail;
“You shall make”… detail, detail, detail.
Observation
When I have a lot of scripture to read and study, I am really glad when I come across these “types” of passages. Just like with the “begats”, I can skim right through them quickly and move on to the “meat” of my readings. Today, since I was going to be commenting on a group of scriptures, including Exodus 26, I felt that it was incumbent upon me to read each word of this passage. As I read my way through the “detail, detail, detail”, I realized how important the construction of Tabernacle garments was to God and if the details of the construction of these garments were important to God, how much more important are the details of the construction of my life to Him.
Application
I’ve often heard the phrase, “the devil is in the details” which means that often the small details of something make it difficult or challenging and that may be true, but in Exodus 26 and in my relationship with the Lord, “the holy God is in the details” which for me is encouraging, comforting and miraculous! It reminds me of Psalm 139: 13-16:
“For You formed my inward parts. You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them.”
Prayer
Father, thank You for the “attention to detail” in Your construction of the Tabernacle and the construction of my life. Help me to no longer “skim” through the scriptures and to realize that You do not waste words, but that there is value in the specifics and You speak to us intentionally regarding our lives. Amen
