Numbers 19; Psalms 56, 57; Isaiah 8-9:7; James 2

As I was reading the verses from Psalm 56 and 57 today…I started to think about personal application.  This goes against a strong sense that you should never change a “jot or tittle”, but I took David’s experience and tried to make it a little more applicable to me … in May, 2010.

“Be merciful to me, O God, for men hotly pursue me;
All day long they press their attack.
My slanders pursue me all day long;
Many are attacking me in their pride.
When I am afraid, I will trust in you.
In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid.
What can mortal man do to me?”
~ Psalm 56:1-4

In 2010, I am not pursued by physical enemies or slanders, but the enemy of my peace is … all my distractions.

The email box – full of things that need to be done.  The mail box – full of bills to be paid.  The laundry basket – full of work that needs to be done.  The messy room – full of abundance that needs to be “put away”.  The uncooperative computer – full of information that I need to be able to access.

These things mock … distract … distress me.

“In God, whose word I praise, in the Lord, whose word I praise – in God I trust; I will not be afraid.  What can man do to me?”
~Psalm 56:10-11

Father, help me to remember … moment by moment … as I get caught up in my distractions … that I trust in You and all this will pass away.

  1. I took comfort in these verses to as I thought about a lesson I have to teach today that I feel ill equipped for. I don’t need to fear anyone except God, but even that is more reverence than fear. I know that he has rescued my soul. The only thing I really need to fear is forgetting that He is my number one love.

    What a great prayer! So easy to get caught up in all this stuff that surrounds me and not focus on the real thing…Jesus and His amazing love and grace for me.

    Great post!
