Numbers 27; Psalm 70; Isaiah 17; 1 Peter 6

⁵Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,
“God opposes the proud  but gives grace to the humble.”^[a]6Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. ⁷Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

In the days of dynasties in China, wealthy samurai would entertain guests. Their houses were fashioned with intentionally short doors. When ever guests entered the house, they would need to bow down to cross the threshold, leaving their necks exposed to the will of who ever was on the other side. Upon entering, full submission was required.

If I want to partake truly in God’s presence, if I want to enter in to His kingdom, I must leave mine first. Humility is not a suggestion, it is a requirement. We are never asked to simply pray for humility. We are commanded to humble ourselves.

Interesting that the verse “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” follows the command to submit. It’s no wonder because giving up control to God is all at once incredibly terrifying and overwhelmingly peaceful.

Lord Jesus,

I submit myself to your authority in my life. Holy spirit, move contrary to my flesh today guide me to do things that I never would of my own decision. I admit that I can’t do it with out you. Help. I give jurisdiction of today’s tasks, to-dos, plans, thoughts, words, and actions to you. I cast every anxiety and worry at your feet. Because you are big. And you are good. And you are faithful.
