The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9 (NIV)
My mind stuck on her words, “In the end, it’s all good.” At a party with a guest, a conversation somehow found its way to the foot of the cross. This woman was not a believer. She had heard the gospel in her life, but chose to embrace her own mix of philosophies to create a future for herself and the entire world where, in the end, it’s all good.
Life outside my familiar circle of Jesus believers stretches and strains me. I found myself wishing for back-up. I thought of others I know who gently ask questions that lead an individual away from sinking anchors they cling to. But that day, it was just me, sitting across from someone who was holding on tightly to hers. And God was watching to see what I’d do.
“That’s not what the Bible says,” I started, carefully. And I continued to put the words out there, simply. Hearts don’t love by force. I could feel a wave of resistance pushing against me. The subject was changed, but her heart wasn’t. Not then.
As much as I wish Jesus would come back today, I am glad that he is patient.
Lord, thank you for the opportunity to speak your name outside of my believing group of friends. Help me to be more sensitive to those around me and share your love for them.
