Deuteronomy 11, Psalm 95 & 96, Isaiah 39, Revelation 9

A few weeks ago, our family pulled into our driveway and noticed a strange car.  As we parked, a couple got out of the car and approached us.  The gentleman addressed my husband, asking him if he was Bob Leatherwood.  When Bob said yes, the gentleman asked if he recognized him.  There were a few awkward seconds until the man said, “You probably don’t.  I looked a lot different when we first met.”  Months earlier, the gentleman had been the victim of a hit and run driver while riding his bike.  Bob noticed him on the side of the road, stopped, called 911 and stayed with him until the emergency equipment arrived.  The man spent several weeks in Shock Trauma and then months more recovering from numerous life threatening injuries.  He had obtained the transcript of the 911 call, gotten Bob’s name and looked him up.  Both he and his wife were quite emotional as he thanked Bob for saving his life.

I have spent a good part of my life ignoring Revelation.  I like reading the Psalms, Proverbs, the Gospels and Paul’s instructions on Christian life.

Revelation is deep.  Revelation is heavy.  Revelation is scary.

Revelation needs to motivate me to become engaged in introducing non-believers to Jesus, our Salvation.

After a yucky description of locusts torturing humans for five months…verse 6 of Revelation 9 says…“During those days men will seek death, but will not find it; they will long to die, but death will elude them.”

When that couple was standing in our driveway…part of me wanted to ask if they were believers…to invite them to church.  Clearly, the Holy Spirit was prompting me to do this.  I didn’t.  I don’t know exactly why I didn’t.  Couldn’t think of a good segue…didn’t want to offend them…just plain chicken.

I live a pretty isolated life.  Most of the people that I have any relationship with are Christians.  I rarely get the opportunity to reach out.

Father, give me a spirit of boldness with those I know and don’t know.  Help me to always find a way to direct others to your salvation, grace and forgiveness.  Motivate me to show others what I have found, the gift of Christ, your Son, our REDEEMER!  Amen!
