Deuteronomy 16; Psalm 103; Isaiah 43; Revelation 13

Psalm 103 is a detailed picture of forgiveness. No grudges, no lasting anger, no revenge. Instead, forgiveness is poured out generously and abundantly. When I am tempted to replay a scenario in my mind, it only strengthens a grudge’s hold on me. Anger burns faster, hurt feelings felt acutely.

Imagining instead dousing flames. Love generously poured over me: sins forgiven, redeemed, crowned with love and compassion.

He does not treat us as our sins deserve
or repay us according to our iniquities.

For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is his love for those who fear him;

as far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our transgressions from us. Psalm 103:10-12

My wandering mind sometimes goes back to places best left buried–and it lingers there too long.

Lord, when I find my mind idling in past hurts, I pray that I would replace those images with better thoughts and generous love.
