2 Samuel 16; 2 Corinthians 9; Ezekiel 23; Psalms 70, 71

Scripture:

14 But as for me, I will always have hope;
I will praise you more and more.

15 My mouth will tell of your righteousness,
of your salvation all day long,
though I know not its measure.

16 I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, O Sovereign LORD;
I will proclaim your righteousness, yours alone.

Psalm 71:14-16 (NIV)

Observation:

It was pretty clear in these passages that the Psalmist was truly struggling with his enemies and was calling for God’s justice. But it is also clear that the Psalmist knows where his hope lies. Through all of the trouble and torment from his enemies, his hope is clearly in God. He has been a believer since his youth and he knows God personally.

Application:

14 But as for me, I will always have hope;
I will praise you more and more.

Do I always have hope and am I praising God more and more, no matter the circumstances? I think not. It seems as though when things are going well that I tend to ignore God and just drift through life. This is when I should be praising God – because I have peace. I know the storms will come. I have been through many, and God has seen me through them. I am not foolish enough to think that I am immune to them. I just need to be on guard and I need to praise God no matter the circumstances. I have also found that it is easier to seek God in trouble than to praise Him. It is easier to praise Him in joyous times. It is most difficult to do either one when life is just drifting by and everything is just “ok.”

15 My mouth will tell of your righteousness,
of your salvation all day long,
though I know not its measure.

Do I tell of His righteousness and of His salvation all day long? I need to make sure that I continue to share the good news regardless of what the person I am sharing it with may think. If I follow the Holy Spirit, I will surely speak the right words at the right time. But, I have to have my heart and my eyes open to tell of His immeasurable salvation.

16 I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, O Sovereign LORD;
I will proclaim your righteousness, yours alone.

We all need to make sure that we proclaim God’s righteousness, and his mighty acts. Sometimes, we like to take credit for what we have done. No, it is what He has done through us. We needn’t take that lightly.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, I do praise you now and I need to praise you more. My hope IS in you, even though I may not show it as much as I should every day. Please help me tell of your salvation each and every day; whether through words, deeds, or whatever means that you need me to tell it. Lord, it is an unbelievable the gift that you have gievn us with salvation – we need to share that gift with everyone. I am sorry that I take it for granted. Lord, also never let me take for granted that I wouldn’t even be here, much less able to do all that I can if you hadn’t given me everything that I have. Let me, and all of us, never take that for granted. Amen.
