“…pray for us…” 2 Thessalonians 3:1b
“…to Your name be the glory…” Psalm 115:1b
I wasn’t in the mood for any long passage today. I was just looking for some words to jump out at me.
Today I was on the phone with a friend who was facing some challenges. Frustrated, I tried to offer help in several different ways. I’m a doer. I want to do something. I’m not really empathetic…more just interested in finding a solution. (Whether the person needs my solution or not!) She simply asked that I pray for her. I am humbled and reminded that the simple act of prayer is much more powerful than my “answers”. Paul asked the Thessalonians to “pray for us”. He knew that their ministry, covered with prayer, would be far more successful than “the best laid plans”.
When we pray, supernatural things happen…things that get noticed by those around. People work together on a project without dissention. Pieces “fall” into place. Discouraged people find God’s grace in their lives. Miracles happen.
Then we have an opportunity! We get to give God the glory! There are times when it is appropriate to roll up your sleeves and “do, do, do”…but when we “pray, pray, pray”, we get to see God go to work!
Father, remind me that the best thing I can “do” is to stop and pray! — Karen
