What does it mean for Jesus to be gentle and humble in heart?
Andrew Murray submits,
We must learn of Jesus, how He is meek and lowly of heart. He teaches us where true humility begins and finds its strength–in the knowledge that it is God who works all in all, that our place is to yield to Him in perfect resignation and dependence, in full consent to be and to do nothing of ourselves.
Humility is one of those illusive things. The moment I say I have obtained it, in my heart to acknowledge myself responsible for this act or state, I have lost it. Humility, I am learning slowly, with much pain, much trial, and much fighting from my self, is that humility is about emptiness. Being nothing. My flesh wants nothing to do with humility for it is the casting out of my flesh.
But my example, is that of Christ who “emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.” (Phil. 2:7)
I submit to your yoke. Teach me, bit by bit, one day at a time, to be humble as You are. Teach me to be and do nothing of myself.
My one need is humility.
I believe you will meet it.
