Exodus 27, John 6, Proverbs 3, Galatians 2

When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat ? He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do. John 6:5-6

Then Jesus declared I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. John 6:35

I am the living bread that comes down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh which I will give for the life of the world. John 6:50-51

This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your forefathers ate manna and died, but he who feeds on this bread will live forever. John 65:8

Jesus took the BREAD. He thanked God for it,  broke it, distributed it. Everyone smelled the aroma of the bread, felt the texture, tasted the flavor, experienced the miracle personally.

Right before the Passover, an eight day festival where the people would be eating not their normal bread, but one made without yeast, was the perfect time to introduce Jesus as the BREAD OF LIFE. Jesus identified his body with the Passover sacrifice where the blood of the lamb saved the Israelites. John the Baptist had already referred to Jesus as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. (John 1:29) But many people had such a hard time swallowing the concept of Jesus’ body and blood as bread and wine that leads to eternal life, that they stopped following him.

God  often does things that don’t make sense from a human perspective. His ways are higher than our ways.(Isaiah 55:9)

God gave an explicit set of directions to Israel on how everything in the temple was to be constructed. They trusted God and obeyed without understanding every detail. The four horns of the altar, which represented atonement power  would be anointed with blood, just as the blood of Christ would be spilled onto four points of the cross from his head, hands and feet. (Exodus 27)

When you accept Jesus and feed on the word of God, you are carbing up for life. We are preparing to react in Christ like ways to ungodly situations we can not foresee, but that God is getting us ready for ahead of time. He has given us everything we need to run the race of life marked out for us. (Heb12:1)

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.  Proverbs 3:5-6
