As I read these verses and as I write this post, my wife and I are in Niagara Falls – the Canadian side – eh 🙂 It is the first time we’ve ever been here and all I can say is – WOW.
If you’ve ever been here, you know what I mean. What I always think about when I’m in places like this with these natural wonders (Alaska is tops among them) is how can anyone look at this spectacular site and think it’s random? Even taking all of the rhetoric around science vs. God out of the equation, how can anyone see this and question the existence of a Creator?
For that matter, how could the Israelites of the Judges and Jeremiah’s time turn their back on God after he’d done so much for them? How could the Pharisees and Sadducees have doubted Jesus and persecuted the apostles? And even now, why do I have days when I turn my back on Him?
Easy answer if you think about it is – Fear. But not the kind of fear God expects from us. It is the kind of fear built on autonomy. I know for me, sometimes I feel like I can handle things – that I only need rely on me. But then God intervenes some how – like displaying his awesome power in the form of Mount McKinley, or Niagara Falls. Fortunately for me, though, I am able to make the connection and respond appropriately – in WORSHIP! Many people simply don’t get that part of it – and it truly saddens me.
Oh Great Creator, THANK YOU for humbling me before your greatness. You deserve all the praise and worship you receive. My I never cease. AMEN
