1 Samuel 5, 6; Romans 5; Jeremiah 43; Psalm 19

You are lying!  The Lord our God has not sent you to say, ‘You must not go to Egypt to settle there.’  ~ Jeremiah 43:2

So they entered Egypt in disobedience to the Lord and went as far as Tahpanhes. ~ Jeremiah 43:7

He (Nebuchadnezzar) will come and attack Egypt, bringing death to those destined for death, captivity to those destined for captivity and the sword to those destined for the sword. ~ Jeremiah 43:11

I am always looking for guidance from the Lord in decision making regarding my life, my job, my finances and all aspects of my conduct in this life.  So often I wish I just had very clear direction, but so often it is not clear at all as to the way I should go or what I should do.  If only there were someone who could tell me what the Lord would have me do.  A prophet like Jeremiah would be helpful!

The Israelites had such a person, but in chapter 43 they clearly did not see that Jeremiah was telling them the truth from God and they paid dearly for this disbelief.

In my past (and I am sure again in my future) I have missed God’s guidance (or completely disobeyed it) and have paid the consequences.  It’s not always been a drastic consequence as with the Israelites in Jeremiah 43, but I missed out on God’s best.  It’s not always easy for me to discern what God would have me do, but in some cases, it is very clear in His Word what all Christians should do.  The Scriptures are a “playbook” for us and can assist us in the way to go when we are unsure.

For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures, we might have hope. ~ Romans 15:4

Father, illuminate Your Word for me that I may find guidance, encouragement and hope.
