2 Chronicles 5 – 6: 11; 1 John 4; Nahum 3; Luke 19

“Beloved let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.” ~ 1 John 4:7

“If we love one another, God abides in us and His love has been perfected in us.” ~ 1 John 4: 12

“And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.” ~ 1 John 4: 21

Love, Love, Love.  All you need is love; so the Beatles say.  This statement is passive.  It’s what we need.  But God has a different idea about love.  John says “let us love one another.”  This is active.  This is something that we extend to others because we have been loved by God.

Jesus said in Matthew 22: 37 that loving God is the greatest command and the second greatest is to love your neighbor as yourself.  We are commanded to love.  So, it’s really important!

In that Beatles song, I recall the line, “It’s easy”.  I don’t find that to be true in my life.  I find it very hard sometimes.  Loving God has become easier as I have come to know Him more through studying His Word, but loving my neighbor is really hard.  Oh, it’s easy to love those who are kind and trustworthy, but so very difficult to love those who hurt our feelings or lie to or cheat us.  How do we love them?

God has given us His Spirit and with Him comes the love of God.  It’s in us!  But we have a choice to love.  Each day; each moment we have that choice and it’s not easy!

Father, fill me with Your Spirit of love that I may extend that love to others that may not know Your love.  May this love change the world!
