Beginnings and new begins. Obviously it is no accident that Genesis quite literally details the beginning of human kind and God’s plan for us, but what I find amazing is that that it details many many new beginnings. I love the history of the flood. The image of the Dove returning with the Olive branch wrecks me.Why didn’t God simply wipe the slate completely clean and start over again? Why does he even consider me at all? Why does He say this:
“Never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though every inclination of his heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done. Gen 8:21b
I know I struggle daily with an unrightous heart, and it wrecks me that God continus to extend that Branch. But then I turn to Mathew and read…
As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Mat. 3:16-17
…and I’m reminded that this is the New Beginning for all of us. This is the beginning of the fulfillment of God’s plan. Placing my complete faith and trust in Jesus means I don’t have to wonder why God considers me. Sharing that pure love Jesus has for me is the reason God wants me here.
Oh great God, I stand in awe of your Love for me. My small mind can’t always wrap itself around your ways, but I know I don’t always have to. Praise to you for who you are! Amen
