Gen 36,37,38; Mat 21:1-22

Yes-and if you embrace this kingdom life and don’t doubt God, you’ll not only do minor feats like I did to the fig tree, but also triumph over huge obstacles.”(Mat 21:21 MSG)

Joesph had feats to overcome. He was hated and lied to by his brothers. His own Father didn’t believe him and was baffled by his dreams. “What’s with all this dreaming? Am I and your mother and your brothers all supposed to bow down to you?” (Gen 37:11 MSG)

Despite all this, he went searching for his brothers, so he could come back and tell his father how they and the flocks were doing. Once he got there, they faked his death and his father thought he was dead. Did Joseph sense their cruelty? Did he know he was heading into danger? Was he naive enough to think they would have a change of heart about him? Or would he have done it anyway, because his faith in God was strong enough that he believed God had a plan for his life.

Joseph’s faith spurred his obedience to his heavenly Father, even when his earthly father did not believe him. It seems to me that Joseph had a lot of patience. He could not see his dreams fulfilled or even make sense of them, but he had faith in the knowledge that God was in control.

There have been prayers that I have waited for God to answer. Some prayers I have seen an answer to. Such as, the birth of our first son after two miscarriages, buying our first house, jobs for my husband and God’s provision. I heard this song on the way home after plans that I had made fell through. This line stood out to me, “What if my greatest disappointments or the aching of this life, is the revealing of a greater thirst, this world can’t satisfy?” (Laura Story- Blessings) Some of my dreams or prayers, I am still waiting to see answers to.  I might not see them answered this side of heaven and sometimes I can be impatient.

Have you ever been impatient in waiting for a dream to be fulfilled?

Thank you Jesus that you care about the details of my life like you cared about the details in Joseph’s life. Help me to have the faith to wait and see how your plan will unfold without trying to take control of the situation myself. I want to loosen my grip on things, so that I can hand them over to you. Help me to live with my hands open everyday, so that I don’t miss your blessings or answers to prayer, that I might have missed otherwise. Thank you for your patience with me. Amen.
