Exodus 1,2,3; Mathew 24:1-28

Mathew 24

3 …. “Tell us,” They said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?”

Exodus 3

12 And God said, “I will be with you.  And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.”

7 The LORD said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering.”

I’m sure that the Israelites had a difficult time seeing the favor of God’s hand in the misery of their daily lives of  being slaves.  Yet God was watching and He was concerned with their suffering.  God wanted to give Moses a sign that proved He had been involved in the rescue of His people.   Jesus shared various signs of things to come, in response to the needs of his disciples, to have visual indications that God was working an active plan in their lives.  Two thousand years later we are still comparing the things we are witnessing, to the list that Jesus gave, to see if we are at the end of the age that he spoke of.  I think God loves to leave His stamp on the stories of our lives.

I’m always looking around the landscape of my life for signs that God is active in it.  At times the signs can be difficult to spot.  I’m too close to the trees to see the forest.  On really bad days, I may even wonder if he cares about my particular story at all.  When this happens, I find myself praying for a sign.  Something small, anything will do, just something that lets me know that God is listening and that he cares about my personal story.  He always finds a way to show me a sign.  God is wanting us to see the evidence of his glorious presence working in our lives.  The signs are always there we just have to be open to seeing them.

Father may you help me to always find you, in the story of my life.  Help me to turn to you in all things and guide me away from my doubts and fears that keep me from seeing the signs of your magnificent presence in my life. Continue to show me your love, grace, and mercy, in Jesus name, Amen.
