Numbers 9,10,11; Mark 14:1-26; Matt 12:48-50

They camped at God’s command and they marched at God’s command. They lived obediently by God’s orders as delivered by Moses” Numbers 9:23 MSG

We’re marching to the place about which God promised. I’ll give it to you.’ Come with us; we’ll treat you well. God has promised good things to Israel.” But Hobad said, “I’m not coming; I’m going back home to my own country, to my own family.” Numbers 10:29-30 MSG

Obedience…even when I don’t feel like it. Or when I am ready to give up, like Hobad and turn back to what is familiar. In these moments of doubt I need to persevere and trust that He who began a good work in me will complete it.

While he was eating dinner, a woman came up carrying a bottle of very expensive perfume. Opening the bottle, she poured it on his head. Some of the guests became furious among themselves.” Mark 14:3-4 MSG

I want to have the kind of faith and obedience that the woman with the alabaster jar had. She poured it on Jesus when no one else understood. She was making a huge sacrifice for Him, knowing that very soon He would be making the ultimate sacrifice for her. She was willing to give up everything for Jesus. She did it out of her love for Him. She understood something that Hobad didn’t. Obedience is thicker than blood. The person who obeys my heavenly Father’s will is my brother and sister and mother.” Matt 12:48-50 MSG

My 7 yr old daughter Lily has a a neighbor friend that she plays with all the time. She is always at our house and going places with us. But, whenever Lily would ask if she could come to church, she could never go. Lily didn’t give up and she finally was able to go. I think about the blessings Lily’s friend and we would have missed out on if we were not obedient to stepping out of our comfort zone.  There was nothing like seeing this little girls excitement as she went to church for the first time!

What does obedience look like in your life today?

Jesus, help me to have the faith to take risks for you, knowing that You are all that matters. Help me not to hesitate, but to be obedient to your call. I pray that I would diligently seek after you so that I will not miss those big and small promptings from your Holy Spirit.
