Dt 8,9,10; Luke 4:1-30

But be assured today that the LORD your God is the one who goes across ahead of you like a devouring fire. He will destroy them; he will subdue them before you. And you will drive them out and annihilate them quickly, as the LORD has promised you. Dt. 9:3

As some of you who attend the same church as me know, we had a bit of a scare this weekend with one of our leaders.  He took ill shortly before having to deliver the weekly message. He’s fine now, but to make a long story short, many people had to make quick adjustments to be sure the worship service was completed.  It was amazing to see so many ready to “stand in the gap” (borrowed from Dave Baldwin BTW) to ensure success.

Of course, we couldn’t have done it with out God truly standing in the gap.  Just as he did when the Israelites were about to face their toughest opponent yet. They trusted God and he gave them the power to defeat their enemy. We have that same power in us – if we truly trust in Him. We have the power to rebuke Satan.  I saw that first hand Sunday.  The enemy tried to take over, but God stood up against him and we rebuked him.

The trouble is, for me anyway, I forget that I have that power myself sometimes.  I find myself letting the enemy sneak in and coerce me to sin.  It bugs me to no end.  I hate my sin.  I know God will stand in the gap for me, I just have to let Him. Christ knew the power of His father – when being tempted in the desert (Luke 4:1-2) He knew he could withstand the devil’s temptations because He truly trusted His father.

God, I trust that you will stand in the gap for me. Help me when I don’t trust! Amen
