“Oh God, You are my God;” Psalm 63:1 NKJV
When David wrote these words, he was being chased in the wilderness. He was being hunted by a man who wanted him dead. All around him, he found betrayal in the villages where he was hiding. Through all of it he trusted and kept believing. Believing that what God had told Him was going to happen, would happen. Even though he couldn’t see it, He had patience and persevered. I truly believe that in this wilderness, God molded him and shaped him into the person he needed to be. So that when the time came, he would have the strength to be the King that he needed to be.
Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane was feeling that betrayal and lonesomeness as well. He felt the pressure of what was coming so much that blood was dripping from his brow. The disciples couldn’t even stay awake for Him. Judas was leading the enemy to that very place. Peter and all of the disciples would soon desert him. A painful tortuous death was drawing close and He could see it all. He also knew what was at stake and because of His great love for you and me he said:
…not My will, but Yours be done.” Luke 22:42b NKJV
Have you had times in your life where things just didn’t seem to being going how you thought they would. Times where you felt you were doing what God wanted, maybe you felt close to Him, but life was just getting harder. I think most of us would answer yes to that question. Maybe its a relationship or a financial struggle. Whatever it is, I know for me, it’s not always easy to say what David said. And that’s okay. Peter failed to live up to this high expectation as did all of the disciples. God still used them for great things.
