1 Kings 3,4; Proverbs 1; John 19:1-22

Scripture:

Proverbs 1:1-6, 1 The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel:

2  To know wisdom and instruction,
to understand words of insight,
3to receive instruction in wise dealing,
in righteousness, justice, and equity;
4  to give prudence to the simple,
knowledge and discretion to the youth—
5  Let the wise hear and increase in learning,
and the one who understands obtain guidance,
6  to understand a proverb and a saying,
the words of the wise and their riddles (ESV).

Observation/Application:

What an awesome book this book of Proverbs. There are so many insights, learnings and applications that we find in this book. Tucked in the middle of benefits of reading this book is this term justice. If we track with the teaching of this book we will be wise in our administration of justice. We will be just in our dealings with others. We’ll in our wisdom take up the cause of the vulnerable, fight against the exploitation of the orphan and bring healing to those who are hurt. It’s not a byproduct of wisdom, it is what wise people do. If we love wisdom we’ll love justice. As we read through this book of Proverbs we’ll see this word used again and again and again. Look for it, see how it’s used and how one becomes just in their actions and inter-actions.

Prayer:

Father God thank you that your Word turns us from selfish individuals to people who care for the vulnerable and oppressed as we read it and apply it to our lives. I pray that our wisdom will be marked by justice. I pray these things in Jesus Name, Amen.
