1Chron26, 27; 1Cor 15:1-28

“But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.” 1Cor 15:20 NKJV

I remember my pastor used to always say that when asked what it would take for him to lose his faith, he would reply, “Show me the body of Christ.”  He was basically saying what Paul is saying in 1 Corinthians 15.  The resurrection is so important.  It testifies of so many things, but most of all it shows God’s power and authority over all things including death itself.  It also gives so much hope to us.  As the passage says, Christ was the first for all those that had died and will die.  We all will one day rise again if we should fall asleep before he returns again.  Once again, Christ goes before us to show us the way.  He lived, died and rose again showing us, modeling for us, leading by example.

And I love the body of evidence that Paul lays out in this chapter.  Listing all of the people and groups of people who saw the risen Christ, he is building a case for those who didn’t see for themselves.  He also mentions how his death and resurrection were according to the scriptures.  I mean 2000 years later, these verse’s give me confidence and strengthen my faith.

“Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the scriptures and that he was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve.  After he was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present…seen by James, then by all the apostles.  Then last of all He was seen by me also,”  1Cor15:3-8 NKJV

Over and over in the bible we find this kind of evidence and case building.  God doesn’t just ask us to have blind faith or trust Him just because He says so without evidence.  He wants us to think rational and use reason to see Him and use that confidence to trust him and increase our faith.
