2 Chronicles 23; Joel 2,3; 2 Corinthians 10

You are looking only on the surface of things. ~ 2 Corinthians 10:7

When I pledged my wedding vows, I promised in good times and in bad.  When I told God I would be obedient to His call, I vowed to walk where He would lead me, and just like with my wedding vows, I’d follow in good times and in hard times.  This is one of those hard times.  I said that I would follow, because it was more important to me to be obedient than to be “comfortable,” that I wanted His best and not just what I think is best.  But honestly, it’s hard and it’s gut wrenching….But then I flipped open to today’s reading and saw this simple statement: You are only looking at the obvious or surface things.

It’s not Heather who is going to provide for us.  It’s not Brad.  It’s not Heather’s boss or Heather’s job.  It’s not Brad’s boss or Brad’s job.  It’s God’s.  He simply calls me to be obedient, to follow Him, even in the hard times, and He promises to provide.

God, I need your strength to get me through.  If I’m honest, I don’t want to be on this path, but I do want to follow you.  Father, you said not to look on the surface of things, but to have confidence in Christ.  Father, I pray for your peace, wisdom, and guidance.  Thank you for always going before me into every situation and for being my guide.  In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.

If anyone is confident that he belongs to Christ, he should consider again that we belong to Christ just as much as he. ~ 2 Corinthians 10:7

  1. The best lessons have been along the hardest roads. He takes me through intensities I’d otherwise avoid. He does provide.

Beautiful post, Heather. I am coming out of a tunnel and while I would have never chosen to go through some of the things behind us, I am more grateful and have more freedom and joy because of the God’s grace and constancy towards me. I pray it’s not too long before you find the same to be true for you.

  3. I’m sorry you are going through a tough road. I am glad He whom we serve is completely trustworthy. I am grateful that you know He is with you always
