Isaiah 32, 33; Romans 3

JUSTICE. RIGHTEOUSNESS. PEACE.

Words that ring strong and clear across the landscape of the centuries. Isaiah cries out in pain and distress for the want of justice, righteousness and peace yet dares to dream of God’s desire to set the world aright. Hear the prophet:

Justice will dwell in the desert and righteousness live in the fertile field. The fruit of righteousness will be peace; the effect of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever. My people will live in peaceful dwelling places in secure homes in undisturbed places of rest. Isaiah 32:16-18

Paul’s words echo and answer Isaiah’s vision:

But now a righteousness from God apart from the law has been made know to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. Romans 3: 21-22

Because of what Christ did for me on the Cross, I can rest in knowing I can have the peace that comes from Jesus allowing me to assume his righteousness, not because I deserve it but because he has so generously and sacrificially offerred this gift to me. I am his. My prayer is that with each new day, my life becomes more about Jesus and his grace alive and at home in me.
