I have a fear of storms. I have stayed the night at a friend’s house more than once, because I didn’t want to drive home surrounded by torrential rain, winds and lightening. But, when I did it was a tangible way for God to show me that He is in control and will get me home safely if I just trust Him. He has a sense of humor, because it is storming as I am writing this…
In Acts 27, Paul tried to warn the Centurion not to continue in the storm, that is was too dangerous. But, he was stubborn and would not listen to him. As a result, they lost food & cargo…but, Paul stayed his course and did not let the Centurion intimidate him. Instead, he proclaimed what God had told him…“Men, you should have listened to me and not have set sail for Crete and incurred this injury and loss. Yet I urge you to take heart, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship. For this very night, there stood before me and angel of God to whom I belong and whom I worship, and he said, “Do not be afraid, Paul; you must stand before Caesar. And behold God has granted you all those who sail with you. So take heart, men, for I have faith in God that it will be exactly as I have been told.” Acts 27:1-27 ESV
Unlike Paul, I think about times that I have been intimated by others and that has caused me to be distracted from my purpose. As well as how stubborn or impatient I can be. But, God remains faithful to bring me to my destination.
Dear Father, As I sit here and listen to the storm I am reminded of your majesty and power. That you are in control and you love me even when the storms surround me. Thank you for your faithfulness and that You always keep your promises. Amen
