Jeremiah 31, 32; Hebrews 8

Change can be so hard for us.  The problem is that all though God never changes, He expects us to constantly change.  Of course the real problem is that He is perfect and we are not.  Hopefully that didn’t come as a surprise to anyone.  Just kidding, but seriously it is our life’s work to never be satisfied with where we are spiritually.  The best part of the deal is that we are not alone in this momentous undertaking.

God never intended us to do life alone and that was one of His reasons for creating the church.  We help each other grow through encouragement, study and prayer.  Even more than that is that we have Him.

“We have a High Priest who sat down in the place of honor beside the throne of the majestic God in heaven.” Hebrews 8:1 NLT

And here we see another change.  God knew the first high priest system and covenant was not good enough.  It was merely a foreshadowing of the one to come with Jesus as the High Priest and the new perfect covenant, one that would free us from all of the ritual and bondage of the old one.

Again, we also see how change is hard for us.  We like our ritual, our traditions so much that churches often get stuck in time.  Traditions in and of themselves are often even good, but as with all things we have to balance them and know when they need to be moved on from.

In the end, everything is about moving closer to God and helping others do the same.

Father, help us to worship you with our lives.  Help us to change and to help others change.
