At the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem, the Levites were sought out from where they lived and were brought to Jerusalem to celebrate joyfully the dedication with songs of thanksgiving and with the music of cymbals, harps and lyres. ~ Nehemiah 12:27
The long wait over. The prayers answered. The promise fulfilled.
A new baby girl in our lives and in my arms leaves me overjoyed. Just as God made a promise to us, to set us apart for His purposes and His glory, He calls us to do the same with our little girl. Very soon, we will both celebrate the life of our daughter and the blessing that God has given us as we have our daughter dedicated.
As I read this passage of scripture in Nehemiah I really felt as though I could connect with how he must have felt when the time finally came to dedicate the wall to the Lord. Nehemiah had to trust God to do a work in the lives of the people to bring forth the workers to build the wall. And throughout the endless taunting of the enemy, Nehemiah held tightly to the promise from God that it would be finished. Finally, standing at the finish line, with the strong, steady wall in place, Nehemiah gathered the Levites and the singers and everyone else who’d been appointed before Nehemiah’s time to bless this wall and celebrate all that God had done in their lives.
And just as Nehemiah had to trust and endure before they could celebrate and rejoice, my husband and I had to trust and endure. But the day has finally come. Our precious daughter is here! And with grateful hearts and with rejoicing, surrounded by those who’ve been appointed by God to help us raise our blessing for God’s purposes and God’s glory, we will dedicate our little girl to God.
Thank you, Father God for our little girl. Thank you that you chose her and have set her apart for your kingdom and your glory. Lord, help us to always remember that she is your child, and that you chose us to raise her. Thank you for that blessing and honor. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
And on that day they offered great sacrifices, rejoicing because God had given them great joy. ~ Nehemiah 12:43
