Jesus…was led by the Spirit in the desert, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry. ~ Luke 4:1-2
The other night was a late night getting the family home and all of us to bed. Because it was such a late night, I skimped on my God-time the next morning which left me ill-prepared for the conflicts that arose later that day. My day didn’t have to go so choppy. That’s not so say that having had my full and committed God-time would have dissolved all of the day’s conflicts, but perhaps it would have helped better provide me with the solution.
We must face our storms prepared!
In Luke 4:1-13, Jesus is led into the desert where He’s tempted by the devil. But the key factor is that He didn’t go in alone or unprepared. “Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert,” (Luke 4:1, emphasis mine). Jesus was prepared to face those challenges.
We need not—I need not—assume that last week’s or last night’s power and preparation will carry me through today and tomorrow. Each day is new and therefore each day I must arise and praise my King and ask Him to prepare me for what the new day will bring.
Father God forgive me for allowing my desire for more sleep to keep me from spending time with you. Help me to awaken early to spend that much needed time with you. Thank you Father, for reminding me that I need you in all season so that I can go through all storms prepared. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’”…When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time. ~ Luke 4:8,13
