“Therefore understand today that the Lord your God is He who goes before you as a consuming fire.” Deuteronomy 9:3a NKJV
One overwhelming truth is evident as I study the bible, God is faithful. This promise is given to the nation of Israel as they are about to cross over the Jordan River into the promise land. Their journey that started over 40 years before in Egypt is drawing to a close at last. There are still many obstacles in front of them and they are worried. God has guided them through the wilderness, giving them water and food daily. He has protected them and visibly shown Himself to the nation, but they are still worried. So God once again with compassion reminds them of who He is.
Boy does that sound familiar. When I stop and look at all that God has blessed me with through my life, I am amazed and often am driven to tears. I was lost in the wilderness for many years and did things that should have brought destruction upon me, either worldly or heavenly, but God actually protected me from myself. He went on to guide me to a place where I could find Him and find the life I was meant to lead. And yet, there are still times when I forget how sovereign He is and begin to worry about nothing. Thankfully, God is compassionate, and He gently nudges me to remember who He is and all that He has done and will do in the future.
“The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, than the mighty waves of the sea. Your testimonies are very sure; Holiness adorns Your house, O Lord, forever. Psalm 93:4-5 NKJV
God, You are so good. I will never understand this side of heaven why you chose to use me, to bless me the way you have. I pray that I would remember ever day your mercy and grace that you have lavished in my life. Help me to spread that grace to those in my life.
