Judges 7; Acts 11; Jer 20; Mark 6

“God said to Gideon, “You have too large an army with you.  I can’t turn Midian over to them like this – they’ll take all the credit saying, ‘I did it all myself, and forget about me…22 companies headed home.  10 companies were left.  God said to Gideon, “There are still too many.  Take them down to the stream and I’ll make the final cut.  God said, “I’ll use the 300 men who lapped at the stream to save you and give Midian into your hands.  All the rest may go home…When the 300 blew their trumpets, God aimed each Midianite’s sword against his companion all over the camp.  They ran for their lives” Judges 7 msg

God says that He wants all the credit, all the glory…but do I trust Him enough to let Him work in my life? Stripping away all of my earthly crutches, holding nothing back and relying on the power of the Holy Spirit?…

The Spirit told me to go with them, no questions asked. So, I went with them…The Holy Spirit fell on them just as he did on us the first time.  I remembered Jesus’ words: ‘John baptized with water; you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ So, I ask you: If God gave the same exact gift to them as to us when we believed in the Master Jesus Christ, how could I object to God?”Acts 11 msg

I think about my forgetfulness, and how I get worn out trying to figure it all out and do it all myself…

“You pushed me into this, God, and I let you do it.  You were too much for me…and all I get for my God warnings are insults and contempt.  I’m worn out trying to hold it in,  I can’t do it any longer! But, God, a most fierce warrior, is at my side.  Those who are after me will be sent sprawling Oh, God-of-Angel-Armies no one fools you. You see through everyone, everything.  Sing to God! All praise to God! He saves the weak from the grip of the wicked.” Jer 20 msg

“Jesus sent the disciples out in pairs. “Don’t think you need a lot of extra equipment for this.  You are the equipment.  Keep it simple.  They preached with joyful urgency that life can be radically different…Jesus came toward them walking in the sea…Jesus was quick to comfort them: “Courage! Its me, Don’t be afraid.” As soon as he climbed into the boat the wind died down.  They were stunned, shaking their heads, wondering what was going on.  They didn’t understand what He had done at supper.  None of this had penetrated their hearts.” Mark 6 msg

Dear Jesus, I pray that your word would penetrate my heart.  So that I would lack nothing and have the courage to walk boldly, humbly in your grace. I know that I can’t take the credit…Because, “You got me out of that mess, you didn’t let my toes gloat.  God, my God, I yelled for help and you put me together.  God, you pulled me out of the grave, gave me another chance at life when I was down and out.” Psalm 30 msg.
