Proverbs 3-4, 1 Cor. 13

By wisdom the Lord laid the earth’s foundations,
by understanding he set the heavens in place;
by his knowledge the watery depths were divided,
    and the clouds let drop the dew.

Tozer defines wisdom as “the ability to devise perfect ends and to achieve those ends by the most perfect means. It sees the end from the beginning, so there can be no need to guess or conjecture. Wisdom sees everything in focus, each in proper relation to all, and is thus able to work toward predestined goals with flawless precision.”

God has created the world in wisdom and governs it still in perfect wisdom. Nothing takes Him off guard or by surprise. A footnote in my bible adds that wisdom in the knowledge of God is the means by which a man can walk in complete confidence and trust.

My wife and I were out on our front step discussing this passage. I asked what she imagined complete confidence and trust to look like. She held up a bug that was crawling on her arm. It steadily marched from one tip of her finger to the next.

“Like this!” She proclaimed. “No matter what I put in front of him, he walks right on to it. No questions asked. If he didn’t trust me, he would fly away.”

I think the man with wisdom can walk this way. He sees things as God sees them.

Tozer elaborates, “Indeed, when seen from the lofty peak of Sinai or Calvary, the whole history of the world is discovered to be but a contest between the wisdom of God and the cunning of Satan and fallen men. The outcome of the contest is not in doubt. The imperfect must fall before the perfect at last.”

There is no need to worry or waver. The final outcome of the battle is already determined. Viewing not only the eternal result of victory but the daily result of victory as ours is how the truly wise Christian can walk in complete trust and confidence.

Jesus, I thank you that the victory has already been won. Give me the wisdom to daily walk in this reality when I am tempted to doubt or waver in my faith.
