Genesis 24-25; Psalm 4; Mark 9

And He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last and servant of all.” Mark 9:35

I was helping in my four year old’s preschool class. She was asked to be the line leader. She hesitantly moved to the front and was leading the kids in a song around the room. After a while she was walking slower than the kids behind her and ended up in the back of the line. It didn’t seem to bother her, because she likes to observe the other kids. But, I couldn’t help but think about how I get frustrated when it seems like I am being overlooked or butted in front of. I want to make sure that I keep my place in line so that I can get going with my life and I am not held up. I don’t like waiting. I was reminded to slow down, be patient, enjoy the moment. Jesus will take care of me. If He is all I need, than I am freed up to serve others and not try to get ahead of them. Instead, to really slow down to love them like Jesus loves.

Then one of the crowd answered and said, “Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a mute spirit…He answered him and said, “O, faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you, Bring him to Me…Then the spirit cried out, convulsed him greatly, and came out of him. And he became as one dead, so that many said, “He is dead.” But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.” Mark 9:17-27 NKJV

I am thankful for a Father who never gives up on me. I can come to Him and He loves me unconditionally. Even when my faith is small. He shows me that He is the only one that can put new life in me. He is a God who still works powers and miracles even today. Sometimes it is by changing a heart.

Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; Have mercy on me and hear my prayer…You have put gladness in my heart.” Psalm 4 NKJV
