“O God, save me by your name, and vindicate me by your might. O God, hear my prayer; give ear to the words of my mouth. For strangers have risen against me; ruthless men seek my life; they do not set God before themselves. Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is the upholder of my life.” Psalm 54:1-4ESV
Men pursued David, but David sought after God….God pursued him and delivered him.
“ Therefore David inquired of the Lord, “Shall I go and attack these Philistines?” And the Lord said to David,”Go and attack the Philistines and save Keliah.” But David’s men said to him, “Behold, we are afraid here in Judah; how much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?” Then David inquired of the Lord again. And the Lord answered him, “Arise, go down to Keilah, for I will give the Philistines into your hand.” And David and his men went to Keilah and fought with the Philistines and brought away their livestock and struck them with a great blow. So David saved the inhibitants of Keilah.” 1 Samuel 23:1-4 ESV
David didn’t move forward until he asked the Lord what He wanted Him to do. He asked again after his men were fearful and questioning him. He didn’t react out of fear, but instead he trusted in God to deliver him.
How many times do I rush ahead of God?
Thank you Father that you don’t give up on me. That you are always pursuing me.
“I will give thanks to your name, O Lord, for it is good. For You have delivered me from every trouble”Psalm 54:6ESV. Great is your faithfulness. Amen.
