Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless you fail the test? 2 Corinthians 13:5
This past summer my husband was in his brother’s wedding. When the wedding was over, the wedding party travelled to Northern Wisconsin and vacationed as a family in Jim’s deceased parents’ lake house. The odd thing about the whole experience was that Jim never knew his birth parents and has only recently been getting to know his brother and sister. Throughout the time in Wisconsin, total strangers came up to Jim, burst out in tears and embraced him. Close family friends whom we had just met, opened up their home and literally gave him a welcome-home-long-lost-son party.
It was surreal. We were embraced and loved by people we had just met. Why? Because when they saw Jim, they saw his father.
Something similar happens when God looks at us; He sees his Son in us. And the more we keep at following Jesus, the more we resemble him.
Jeremiah understands this and so do our spirits when we seek this transformation and as our appetite for God’s Word grows:
“When your words came, I ate them;
they were my joy and my heart’s delight,
for I bear your name, O Lord God Almighty.”
Be encouraged friends. God loves us. His work in us continues.
“Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully as I am fully known.” 1 Corinthians 13:12
