Genesis 16, Matthew 15, Nehemiah 5, Acts 15

It seems I have the wintertime blues.  The short days of sunlight and the long darkness of night.  The cold, windy, overcast days.  The recovery from the Christmas season.  (All the Christmas decorations are still not put away.)  Hibernation seems like a good idea.

Today God pulls me closer to him.  He makes his presence known to me.  He provides gentle reminders that are a warm comfort to my soul.  My God reassures that he is with me.

He sees his people.  He saw Hagar:

She (Hagar) gave this name to the LORD who spoke to her:  “You are the God who sees me,“ for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.”  Genesis 16:13

He sees me.

He knows the hearts of people:

Peter says, “God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us.  He made no distinction between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith.”  Acts 15:8-9

He knows my heart.

He is compassionate:

Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat.  I do not want to send them away hungry, or they may collapse on the way.”  Matthew 15:32

He has compassion for me.

Dear God, You are Love and Hope.  You deeply and personally care for each of your followers.  You know me.  Let me feel the warmth of your presence.  Revive me from both mental and physical lethargy.  Pour your light into my open heart.  Comfort my soul, oh Lord.  Amen.

Diona
