‭‭“Praise the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭150:1-6‬ ‭NIV

There are a lot of things right now that get in the way of my praising God. One of the biggest is unanswered prayer. Or…an answer to prayer that I don’t like. I don’t know about you, but I find it very hard to praise God in the middle of heartache. And yet…that’s what we are called to do.

I think of the history of the Israelites and how they kept turning towards God and then away from God… towards God then away from God. Even King David, sinned repented and sinned again. So much like me!! I see that same back and forth in my life.

This Psalm makes me wonder if Praising God is one way to stop that pendulum swing.

  • In the midst of heartache…Praise God.
  • In the midst of fear…Praise God.
  • In the midst of grief…Praise God.
  • In the midst of confusion…Praise God.
  • In the midst of pain…Praise God.

What could praising God do in your heart?

Let’s find out this week. Would you join me in praising God for who He is in your life every day this week? It could be at night when you’re thinking over your day. Or it could be in the morning as you’re starting it. Regardless of when, let’s Praise God together!

Oh God, how my heart longs for more of you. I praise you not because of what you have or have not done, but because of who you are and your nearness to me. I praise you because You are a God that is present in every moment of every day. I praise you because your promises are trustworthy. I praise you because you are working in me and in the world. God, I praise you! Amen.
