2 Chronicles 27,28; Revelation 14; Zechariah 10; John 13

3 Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come fromGod and was returning to God; 4 so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. 5 After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him. 6 He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?” 7 Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” 8 “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.” 9 “Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!” (John 18:3-9[NIV])

John 13 is an appropriate passage to read as we approach Christmas Day. Elsewhere Scripture tells us that Jesus came to serve not to be served. So as we celebrate His arrival to earth, we need to remember one part of His mission points. And during this scene of serving the disciples He knew His place. Everthing was under His power and yet He washed His disciples’ feet.

At this Christmas 2020 let’s remember Jesus’ example. If we are to reflect Him, we need to serve this Christmas not be served. It wasn’t a lot of people. Jesus served twelve that night. Who is the one or two or three people you can still serve this Christmas season. In so doing they may get a glimpse of Jesus in you. Who knows some may come to follow Jesus as well.

Merry Christmas!
