“Now by faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.” (Hebrews 11:1-3 ESV)
Moses is part of what is called the “hall of faith” because he believed in God, even though he couldn’t see Him, and trusted Him, even though he had to hope for what he believed to come true.
“By faith, Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict. By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward. By faith he left Egypt, not being afraid of the anger of the king, for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible. By faith he kept the Passover and sprinkled the blood, so that the Destroyer of the firstborn might not touch them.” (Hebrews 11:23-28 ESV)
Moses obeyed the Lord to the best of his human ability. He was chosen by God to lead the people and he accepted that role.
“The Lord spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the tent of meeting, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt, saying, ‘Take a census of all the congregation of the people of Israel, by clans, by father’s houses, according to the number of names, every male, head by head. From twenty years old and upward, all in Israel who are able to go to war, you and Aaron shall list them, company by company.” (Numbers 1:1-3 ESV)
The people of Israel obeyed Moses as unto the Lord.
“Thus did the people of Israel. According to all that the Lord commanded Moses, so they camped by their standards, and so they set out, each one in his clan, according to his father’s house.” (Numbers 2:34 ESV)
May we all qualify to be in the “hall of faith,” believing in things unseen, believing that God’s word is true simply because He said it.
“Let the righteous one rejoice in the Lord and take refuge in Him! Let all the upright in heart exult!” (Psalm 63:10 ESV)
