Ezra 7-10; Psalm 97; Revelation 4

The images mentioned in today’s passages speak for themselves. The Psalm for today had so much in it that I had to include it all.

“The Lord reigns, let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad! Clouds and thick darkness are all around him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. Fire goes before him and burns up his adversaries all around. His lightnings light up the world; the earth sees and trembles. The mountains melt like wax before the Lord, before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim his righteousness, and all the peoples see his glory. All worshippers of images are put to shame, who make their boast in worthless idols; worship him, all you gods! Zion hears and is glad, and the daughters of Judah rejoice, because of your judgements, O Lord. For you, O Lord, are most high over all the earth; you are exalted far above all gods. O you who love the Lord, hate evil! He preserves the lives of his saints; he delivers them from the hand of the wicked. Light is sown for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart. Rejoice in the Lord, o you righteous, and give thanks to his holy name!” (Psalm 97 ESV)

After reading this passage, I sat and tried to imagine all that was described. The psalmist describes how truly powerful the Lord is and how we are to rejoice in this knowledge. Similar sentiments are described in Revelation on events that are to come.

“Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was is and is to come!

“The twenty-four elders fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne, saying, ‘Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” (Revelation 4:8b & 10-11 ESV)

I meditate on the image of the world yet to come when all is made perfect again and all the world knows that Jesus is King and Lord over all.
