Nehemiah 10-13; Revelation 8

The hardest part of reading through the Bible for me is reading all the names. In this portion of Nehemiah, we find so many names!!! And then don’t even get me started on Revelation! What does it mean? I took a class in college on Daniel and Revelation and I still don’t get it all. There are a few things, however, that have stood out to me in these passages today.

All the names!!

I have such trouble reading all the names, and it’s not just the pronunciation. We know nothing about these individuals outside of their names. And yet…god knows each one. He knows not only their names, but He knows their likes and dislikes. He knows their strengths and weaknesses. He knows their hurts and pains. Every name in the Bible is known by God.

I am known by a loving God.

“Remember me for this also, my God, and show mercy to me according to your great love.”

Nehemiah‬ ‭13:22‬ ‭NIV

Nehemiah asked God boldly for favor. We are all very aware of the fact that we don’t always get what we want or need. We have a God who we can trust with our desires and our futures.

Revelation is the revealing of God. We cannot fully know it or understand it because we cannot fully know or understand our God. We can be certain, however, that there is an end. And when the end comes, we will still have a God who is worthy of our trust.

Dear God, I don’t know a lot of things about you. Every day I am reminded of how little I know. And every day I am reminded that you are loving, merciful, kind and worthy of our trust. We choose to trust you with the things we cannot understand and the things we do not know. Amen.
