Both of our passages for today seem hard to work out. Did Job really sin so bad that God took his family and wealth? In the end (spoiler alert) we find out he hasn’t sinned. God was using Job as a poster child that Satan could not break. In the end though Job is reminded of God’s grandeur and power and creativity. God wins in the end (so does Job).
In Revelation 12 we see good waging war against evil. As one studies this single chapter of the Bible there have been hundreds of pages written about this encounter between the woman and the dragon and who the baby is. It’s a classic war between good and evil. We see that in the end Satan is defeated:
7 Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, 8 but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. 9 And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him (Revelation 12:7-9 [ESV]).
The outcomes in both scenarios were never in doubt. God is the victor at the end of the age. Our hope needs to be in Him and His awesome power to save.
These passages remind me of the following story. A man walked by a little league baseball game and noticed the score was 21-0. He approached a young boy on the bench of the losing team. “Son it doesn’t look very good for your team.” The boy replied with a smile, “Well, no sir, not right now, but we haven’t got to bat yet!”
It may appear as if Satan has gained the upper hand, but the Lord hasn’t stepped up to
the plate yet! He is coming again and He will rule in power. The victory has already been won
and I believe we are nearing the bottom of the 9th! It’s good to be a winner with Jesus. Are you
