Made Holy
For days now we have been reading about how God desires the Israelites to live. To me, it has always felt impossible! How could God ask so much of them? He had to have known they would never be able to follow all the rules.
That was the point, wasn’t it? To demonstrate that no mere human could make themselves Holy. It would require more. More help, more direction, more mercy and more grace than they could muster up themselves. And yet…God didn’t leave them in a place of “not enoughness”. (Yes, I made up that last word.) We have Jesus! Who did the Israelites have?
“I am the Lord, who makes them holy.”
Leviticus 22:9 NIV

“I am the Lord, who makes them holy.”
Leviticus 22:2, 3, 8, 9 & 16
Five times Moses was commanded to tell the priests that God is responsible for their Holiness. Even in the days before Jesus God made a way. He made a way for the people to be Holy. As much as we would love to claim our holiness from our actions, it is ultimately a gift from God. Always has been…always will be.
What will you do with the gift?
Heavenly Father, may we not take for granted the gift of your holiness. God you have so graciously and mercifully made a way for us to be found Holy before you. Thank you! May we honor you in how we live out that gift of Holiness. Through your love and wisdom, guide us. Amen.
