I find that the last few chapters of most of the books that were written in the Bible hold the most powerful messages. So I wanted to take my time looking at Deuteronomy chapter 32.
Listen, Heavens, I have something to tell you.
Attention, Earth, I’ve got a mouth full of words.
My teaching, let it fall like a gentle rain,
my words arrive like morning dew,
Like a sprinkling rain on new grass,
like spring showers on the garden.
For it’s God’s Name I’m preaching—
respond to the greatness of our God!
The Rock: His works are perfect,
and the way he works is fair and just;
A God you can depend upon, no exceptions,
a straight-arrow God.
His messed-up, mixed-up children, his non-children,
throw mud at him but none of it sticks. – Deuteronomy 32:1-5 MSG
How amazing is God. Moses is preserving the honour of God making sure that no one, especially those who have rejected Him, not mislead anyone. God is right, just, and good, well Moses says great.
This kind of praise and worship and declaration of who God is helps me in my own walk – prevents me from sinning and it preserves me in my obedience – keeps my attitude with high and honourable thoughts of God and to take every opportunity to express those to Him.
When the High God gave the nations their stake,
gave them their place on Earth,
He put each of the peoples within boundaries
under the care of divine guardians.
But God himself took charge of his people,
took Jacob on as his personal concern. – Deuteronomy 32:8-9 MSG
It may not make sense to anyone else, but God chose His people from all the people in the world. However, with that honour comes expectations of responsibility. There is a requirement to give honour, glory and worship from the people He has chosen, more so than any other person in the world that was not chosen.
When I read verses 10-14, the familiar phrase – “the apple of his eye” – catches my attention.
I cannot imagine why I doubt the goodness of God toward me regardless of the situation I am in. I mean God “lifted him onto the hilltops” and I can feast and rest with honour in my fruitful fields. I move from a place where things were hard, there was some poverty and disgrace, and I am moved to a place where things were great, I am growing, I am enriched, I am a child of the King and I serve the King of Kings – One whom I am delighted to honour.
Thank you Father for making this all happen in my life. All I have, all I feel, all I really know to be true comes from Your hand. You are the only One that I look to, the only One I will praise and worship and the only One I will follow.
