“Love the Lord, all you saints! The Lord preserves the faithful but abundantly repays the one who acts in pride. Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the Lord!” (Psalm 31:24-24 ESV)
One of my favorite hymns is “Great is Thy Faithfulness.” Each time I sing it I find myself with tears running down my face. It reminds me again and again of the truth of God’s faithfulness. He doesn’t promise pain free lives, but He does promise that He will be with us through it all. When we share our testimonies with others, we can share stories of His goodness and His faithfulness in our lives.
“Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the Lord. Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!” (Psalm 32:10-11 ESV)
Those without the Lord in their lives never have hope or peace. But those of us who trust in Him, can rejoice in all things. We can have peace and joy that the world does not understand because only He can give it. That thought alone should make us rejoice.
“Shout for joy in the Lord, O you righteous! Praise befits the upright. Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre; make melody to Him with the harp of ten strings! Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts. For the word of the Lord is upright, and all His work is done in faithfulness. He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord.” (Psalm 33:1-5 ESV)
Our family was blessed to see a musical about David recently. It emphasized how David used the talents the Lord gave him to praise Him with song or cry out to him in distress. And the Lord inspired him to write some of the Psalms that reflect those interactions, as we read about today. Songs and music are another wonderful way to testify of God’s goodness and faithfulness.
Lord, Thank you for creating music. What a gift it is to all of us, not only the musicians who use it, but those of us lay people who simply enjoy it. Thank you for people like David who used his musical gifts to guide us all in worship. Help me to truly worship you in mind, body and spirit.
