John 14:12-17:13

I have been thinking a lot lately about the first believers of Jesus. The teachings of Jesus were so new and fresh and life changing. I prayed and asked Jesus into my heart when I was 6. I’ve lived with Jesus’ teaching my whole life. How do I live like those first believers? How do live with their excitement over Jesus?

“I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”

John‬ ‭15‬:‭15‬ ‭NIV

These words by Jesus along with how He lived His life spark that joy and awe in me. Our God calls me…you…friend. What God does that? Ours does!! How does that change you? How do the following verses in our reading change you?

“So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.”‬‬

John‬ ‭16‬:‭22‬ ‭NIV

““I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.””

John‬ ‭16‬:‭33‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one.”

John‬ ‭17‬:‭11‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Hear His words as if they are for the first time. This is your God.

Dear God, this is just a fraction of the words you have spoken over us. Soften our hearts, Lord, to your words. May we be moved by them and compelled to hear more and desire more. Fill our hearts with the awe and joy of the very first believers. May our lives be forever different because of You. Amen.
