Genesis 20-23 & Luke 6

‘”And God heard the voice of the boy, and the angel of God called to Hagar from Heaven and said to her, ‘What troubles you, Hagar? Fear not, for God has heard the voice of the boy where he is. Up! Lift up the boy, and hold him fast with your hand, for I will make a great nation. Then God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water. And she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink. God was with the boy, and he grew up. He lived in the wilderness and became an expert with the bow. He lived in the wilderness of Paran, and his mother took a wife for him from the land of Egypt.” (Genesis 21:17-21 ESV)

God protected and rescued Hagar and Ishmael.

When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built the alter there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son. But the angel of the Lord called to him from Heaven and said, ‘Abraham! Abraham! And he said ‘Here I am.’ He said, ‘Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.’ And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called the name of that place, ‘The Lord will provide as it is said to this day, ‘On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.” (Genesis 22:9-14 ESV)

God protected and rescued Abraham and Isaac.

Everyone who comes to Me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.” (Luke 6:47-48 ESV)

God protects and rescues us when we love and follow Him.

Lord, thank you for the examples in the Bible that show how you provide for your children. May we never take this provision for granted.
